It looks like the United States isn’t the only country with plans to erect a barrier along its border. In a bid to decrease the massive amount of illegal immigration flowing into their country, the European nation of Slovakia has announced it’s own plans to build a wall, hoping that doing so will stem the tide of Middle Eastern migrants currently flooding into Europe.
The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, has taken a hard line against immigration in recent years, calling the EU’s policies on allowing migrants into Europe “ritual suicide,” and vowed to take a stand to stop it. “We’ll never bring even a single Muslim to Slovakia; we won’t create any Muslim communities here because they pose a serious security risk,” he said during a speech, promising that his country will “never bow to the European Union’s dictates and accept quotas.”
Slovakia is joined by several other eastern European nations who have vowed to protect themselves from the crush of migrants and preserve their culture and national integrity. Mária Schmidt, a museum director in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, told the press that there is a good reason to be wary of the migrants, and history has proven they don’t have good intentions when they arrive in Europe. “We used to fight Turkish invaders and were occupied by the Turks for 150 years,” she says. “We know the consequences that certain kinds of contacts may entail.”
The growing rift between the eastern European nations who are staunchly against illegal immigration and nations like Germany and France, who support migration to Europe, is poised to tear the EU apart. And the eastern European nations are beginning to convince other EU countries that their cause is true. Recently, the Chancellor of the central European nation of Austria agreed that the migrant plan “isn’t working,” and that further measures need to be taken to secure the safety and security of Europe.
It’s about time the nations of Europe start to wake up and realize that the unchecked flow of illegal immigrants into their continent will only bring more terrorism and suffering. After dozens of attacks on innocent people in the last few years, maybe other nations will finally take a stand and join Slovakia to refuse any more migrants, and finally make Europe as safe as it was only a few years ago, when tourists weren’t afraid to visit some of the world’s great cities out of fear of being a radical jihadi’s next victim.
