Governor Signs Anti-Gun Bill Into Law – It’s Happening

In a sign that the Republican party has lost its constitutional moorings and has fallen for the fallacy that unobtainable total security trumps individual liberty, Republican Vermont Governor Phil Scott has just signed off on a massive gun-control law for his state.

The Washington Free Beacon writes that Scott’s move comes after he promised voters in the 2016 election that he did not see the need to add more gun-control laws to the stack already in the books.

On April 11, Scott signed S. 55 that “bans the sale of any firearms to most adults under 21, bans the sale of rifle magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds and handgun magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds, bans private sales of used firearms unless facilitated by a federally licensed gun dealer, and bans the sale and possession of bump-fire stocks. Anyone convicted of breaking the provisions of the law could face up to a year in prison or $1,000 in fines,” writes the Beacon.

Those possessing any of the abovementioned items have until October 1, 2018 to turn in or sell them or they face charges.

Governor Scott states that his flip on the issue came after a failed school shooting at Fair Haven Union High School in Vermont.

“I support the Second Amendment, but I had to ask myself, ‘are we truly doing everything we can to make our kids and communities safer?’” Scott said. “Because if we’re at a point where our kids are afraid to go to school, and parents are afraid to put them on a bus; or police don’t have the tools they need to protect victims of violence; or families can’t step in to prevent a loved one from taking their own life; then who are we? The answers to those crucial questions forced me to reconsider, and after deep reflection, change some of my own views.”

The funny thing about the new law is that it does not target pump-action shotguns, the weapon chosen by the failed shooter in the Fair Haven Union High School incident.

We have been warned for decades, if not centuries, that the government would eventually move to grab our Constitutionally-protected weapons. That time is now upon us.
